What this policy covers

Your privacy is important to us.  This policy is intended to help you understand how we collect, use and share information about you.

This Privacy Policy is applicable to all data and information collected through all websites and services, including software Services operated or enabled by Social Honey Ltd. trading as Readersight (that’s us/we/our), that relates to our users (that’s you/your). Please read the privacy policy to learn more. By visiting or using our websites or Services in any manner, you are acknowledging and accept the terms of this Privacy Policy, and consent that we collect, use and share your information in the ways outlined below.

 

Information you provide to us

When signing up for our Services as a Customer or otherwise communicating with us, we may ask you for Personal Information in the form of name, email address or phone number. If you do not want your Personal Information collected as a customer, please do not submit it.

 

Account and Profile Information

When you register, the primary contact detail we have to communicate with you is your email address.  We use it to update you on product changes and to manage access your account.  You may also add additional profile information such as contact telephone number and and profile photo to be displayed in our Services.  We also keep a track of any preferences you may have selected in your account settings.

 

Content you provide using our Services

There are many ways that Customers share content with us through the use of our Services e.g. we allow Customers to add tags/labels to their articles to assist with reporting, or to input information about their paid stories that they deliver through our recommendations products, or titles and images used to run split tests, or user poll questions.

 

Information collected automatically through use of our Services

Whenever you use our Services we, as well as third-party vendors (e.g. analytics providers like Google Analytics) may collect information about how the Services are being used. This is done through a variety of technologies and can be performed automatically or passively. When you use our websites, Services, or websites that use our Services, your browser sends data (“Log Data”) that we record. The information collected is available via a http packet i.e., browser type and version information, device information, url information.  We do receive IP addresses (because the internet needs these to work) however we discard the identifying portions and use them to identify location information at a city level only.  We don’t process Cookies, however if we ever need to then it will not be to store your personal information without first explaining our usage reason and asking for your explicit consent.  We use “Local Storage” which is a feature of most modern web browsers, to store anonymous identifiers and preferences. We use this information, which does not contain personal information, to analyze and build statistics about trends, usage of our Services, improve performance of our Services, and build anonymized aggregated data about user preferences.  No information that we collect is identifiable to you as an individual.

Customers are not permitted to collect Personal Information through the use of our Services.

 

How we use the information we collect

Depending on the Services you’re using the information collected may be used in different ways:

  • We use your email address and name to log you in, present your name in your profile, when emailing you with account updates/changes.
  • We use your contact information to keep you informed of data insights from our Data team.
  • Our customer support team also use this contact information to inform you of changes or improvements to features.
  • Our marketing team use contact information to send promotional communications related our Services e.g. upcoming features, newsletters, surveys, relevant events
  • Our Services use your preferences to personalize experiences with our products to improve experiences e.g. recommending interesting stories

 

You can Opt out of some communication through the manage preferences links below.  You can’t Opt out of some obvious ones, like account management emails, because we need these for you to use our Services.

 

Will this information be shared?

Beyond actions outlined in this Privacy Policy, we will not provide Personal Information to any non-Service related third party without first receiving your consent. We may share any non-personal information for example, anonymous usage information with third parties. We may also join this non-personal information with other non-personal information for anonymized trend analysis.

We may employ other companies as “Trusted Third Parties” to supply services or functions in order to provide the Services to you on our behalf. These Trusted Third Parties do not have any right to use the Personal Information we share beyond what is necessary to support us.  For example, we may use an Email Service Provider like MailChimp to email our customers about a security update.

We reserve the right to share any information, including Personal Information, that is obligated by law.

 

Links to other sites

Our Services run on, and link to, other websites or services whose privacy practices may differ from ours. If you submit information those sites, your information is governed by their privacy policies, not this one. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy policy of any company you interact with.

 

Access and control

Depending on the Services provided the access and control levels vary:

  • Publisher Customers can access and update your account details through the profile page provided by the Services.
  • Reader Customers can access and update their account details through the Services user interfaces on Publisher websites, and also on a dedicated page here
  • Whilst we don’t store personal information on Anonymous readers, we still provide Opt Out details below.

 

Deactivating your account
If you no longer wish to use our Services you can deactivate your account through the user profile page.  Note that this will not delete your data, which will be held for a cool-off period of six months in case you wish to reactivate your account and re-instate your preferences.
Deleting your information
If you are a Customer and wish to have your Personal Information removed, please contact us via email at info@readersight.com and we endeavour to process the change within 5 days. Note that some Personal Information is required for the delivery of Services and Opting Out may mean no longer using the Services.  Note also that we may need to retain certain information to comply with our legal obligations.

 

Can I Opt-Out?

Yes. At Readersight we build tools to help readers and publishers through personalized experiences.  We take great pride in providing personalized Services that do not infringe on the privacy of the individual. We do however understand that the type of information collection may be a concern to you. Both reader and publisher Customers are informed of their information use and consent is requested on sign-up. For anonymous readers, we respect doNotTrack browser settings (navigator.doNoTrack) and also facilitate Opt Out functionality below.

Note, resetting your browser or clearing its cache will remove the Opt-Out settings for Readersight’s personalization Services and doing so will require you Opt-Out again.

 

To Opt-Out of third party services you can block cookies from your web browser or manage your preferences with each individually. A good resource for this is available via the Digital Advertising Alliance program

 

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may make amendments to this Privacy Policy from time to time, and use of any and all information is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time of use. If we make changes to the way we use Personal Information we will announce such change on our website before the change comes into effect. Please re-visit this site from time to time to ensure you are kept up to date with the most recent Privacy Policy changes.
